Descrizione

I maschi possono raggiungere i 10 cm di lunghezza totale. 1 Il maschio adulto ha solitamente un rigonfiamento sulla testa e ha pinne più appuntite rispetto alla femmina. Il loro comportamento è territoriale e aggressivo nella deposizione delle uova in quanto proteggono il nido da qualsiasi altro pesce durante la cova.

Diffusione

Si trova in America Centrale : la zona del Pacifico (dal fiume Sucio - El Salvador - al fiume Suchiate - Guatemala -) e la zona atlantica (dal fiume Patuca - Honduras - al fiume Jutiapa - Guatemala).
